Is webstats4u (formerly Nedstat) hurting your site? All traces of Nedstat and/or webstats4u have been removed from all of my sites. There are many reasons for this removal.

  • The popups were just pure annoying
  • The popups might be violating AdSense (and other ad package) policies in spite of the fact that the popups were not contextual.
  • Though there is no empirical data to prove it, I have read in the past that popups might reduce Google traffic
  • Though there is no empirical data to prove it, I know for a fact that a large percentage of web visitors hate popups 😉
  • I refuse to allow the kind of tactics that webstats4u has decided to employ
  • There are way too many good online statistics packages (free ones) for anyone to continue using webstats4u

In addition to the above, I would like to clear IceRocket of any wrongdoing. The popups were a result of webstats4u and NOT IceRocket.

We’ve seen this on the WordPress support forums as well and it can be hard to track down as it seems to only do the popups at random.

I have never been a fan of external services like that anyway and this is the primary reason why!

I have been using http://statcounter.com for all my stats. Very detailed stats and free with a log limit.

Yupp .! Another vote for StatCounter .. Very nice service indeed .. I can see you have already added it.. 🙂

  4. I used StatCounter for a long time and it was really great, but then I purchased Mint and now I highly recommend it. Gives you everything you need, and then some with a great community for support and plug-ins… It’s the WordPress of stats.

I have removed it, too. The points you mention (I can’t comment on AdSense problems because I don’t use it) are all truly reason enough to ban webstats4u from your page if you want to have it clean 🙂

I’ll go with awstat or delineate instead 😉

For my personal weblog, I use PHPstats, an italian system.

Many features, but I don’t know if there is an english translation of the UI.

  8. Crystal says:

I’ve been partial to Twatch for my stats, but it’s not an external system like statcounter is.

After discovering nedstat was adding random popunders on my site I removed them. It is very annoying. I have been with this counter program for more than 6 years and I felt very disgusted.

Trackbacks/Pingbacks

  1. Sorry for the Popups

    Bye-bye Webstats4U.
I had been using Webstats4U to help track my site usage and was relatively happy with it, until I noticed this morning that when leaving my website I hit by a pop-under.
Now I despise ads of this nature. I find them highly annoying
